The UI may use detailed hand-drawn recruit portraits while the same people appear as pixel sprites in the world. This difference is intentional.
- Portrait: WHO IS THIS PERSON?
- Sprite: WHAT IS THIS PERSON DOING?
The transition between portrait and sprite does not need identical rendering. Identity is maintained through hair, palette, clothing masses, body type, weapon/device and silhouette.
Amended D-080, D-081 With one sprite per Active, the sprite carries the
Active (device, silhouette, clothing for its use) and a palette tint; the
portrait carries the person. Portraits come from an offline library assigned to
each recruit deterministically. How closely a portrait must agree with the
Active's sprite (body type, hair) is open — ../OPEN_QUESTIONS.md OQ-A2.
